THE HOMELAND OF ZINFANDEL

The variety that Americans call Zinfandel and the Italians Primitivo, is actually the Croatian variety Crljenak, as established by Professor Dr. Carole Meredith in a scientific paper published in 2002. After decades of searching for the identity of this exceptionally popular variety, Croatia is finally established as being its homeland, where it has been present as early as the 15th century, and is related to numerous other local varieties.

ONE OF THE BEST 5 WINE REGIONS IN THE WORLD

It might come as a surprise, but Croatia was selected as one of the top 5 wine regions to visit, surpassing even much more famous rivals such as Tuscany, Napa Valley, Oregon, or Bordeaux in the selection process. The priceless beauty of Croatian wine landscapes is one of the most important reasons to visit and enjoy our indigenous varieties.

THE WINES ARE AWARD-WINNERS

Due to small production quantities compared to wine giants such as France, California, or Spain, Croatian wines are not a worldwide hit. However, they are regular award winners  at prestigious wine fairs and yearly wine competitions. In the last few years, not a single year has gone by without the awarding of gold, silver, or bronze to a Croatian winemaker.

BESIDES THE GREAT WINE, THERE'S ALSO GREAT FOOD

Food and wine come hand in hand, and Croatia will not disappoint with either. The local cheese and prosciutto will knock you off your feet, truffles are really tasty aswell, not to mention the premium quality fish and sea food, which comes straight to your table from the Adriatic Sea!

ONE FOR THE ROAD!

Croatians are very friendly and if they are hosting you then expect some rakija (plum brandy) as a starter. They would then expect you to have at least two glasses of wine – you risk offending your host if you show reluctance. And when you have said your thank you and are wanting to leave – the host will talk you into having a last glass of wine – "for the road".
